Description
Taking inspiration from the Arizona Coyotes recently bringing back their original uniform for a Throwback Night, and with rumours of them going with new uniforms next season, I had a go at a full-on rebrand on the team, fusing together the concepts of both the past and present Coyotes identities to create an all new look.
There are things I like and things I don't like about both of their existing brands. The original Kachina-inspired uniform had a unique look and was a colourful uniform; the problem there was that all of their colours were dark and muted. The team coloured uniform was primarily black with some brick red and dark green thrown in, on paper it probbaly looked colourful and interesting, but the problem was that the red and green both manage to bleed into the black. On the other hand, the modern version of the Coyotes makes more effective use of red as a primary colour along with a more traditional uniform design. Only thing there is they're only using the red and white from their palette, and once the uniform was stripped of its stripes with the Reebok Edge version, it just looked dull and generic.
As I did with another Coyotes concept I did a while back, I wanted to make more effective use of their colour palette in the uniforms to create a more striking look. I debated going with Kachina style striping like the Throwback does, but I thought it better for the team's full-time look to be more traditional. My striping design here is similar to my older design, but I've also fixed the issues I had with that here.
The logo, sharp and angular, is a fusion of the team's past and present logos, the left half wearing the half-mask of the original logo and the right half borrowing design elements from their current logo. The Throwback being as popular as it was I thought this would make an ideal solution for the team. I've been told elsewhere that, as a result of my assymetrical apparoach, the logo looks a bit like two Coyotes butting heads with each other. Not intentional on my part, but at the same time I can see where they're coming from!
